As we celebrate Earth Day this week, it’s essential to recognize the important role that responsible marketers play in advocating for sustainability not only in their marketing strategies but also in their consumption choices.

There are several ways where we can contribute as a “Responsible Consumer” ….. at the end of the day, why trying at home and forgetting the good practices at our jobs?

Marketers can prioritize sustainability from event planning if we opt for venues with eco-friendly certifications, reduce paper waste by utilizing digital invitations and materials, and select catering options that emphasize locally sourced for example..

We have a key role to advocate for sustainable practices during events and internally too. Encourage attendees to utilize reusable items like water bottles and utensils, provide recycling and composting bins, and minimize single-use plastics and packaging to reduce waste.

Marketers can vet and collaborate with suppliers committed to sustainability. Seek out vendors offering eco-friendly alternatives for event essentials like banners, signage, and promotional materials, thereby minimizing the environmental impact of the event supply chain whenever possible or finding ways to re-utilise your own material.

Curating Sustainable Goodie Providers: we can prioritize eco-friendly products when curating event goodies: reusable tote bags, bamboo utensil sets and providing attendees with environmentally conscious alternatives. Choose local providers when possible.
